The Home & School Association
retains John Hirschauer as a legislative liason
The Home and Schoool Association has recently engaged John Hirschauer, a Board member who grew up in Southbury and is a longtime STS volunteer, to liaise with legislators and public officials, as well as to enhance STS’ visibility on social media and the internet. John won this year’s essay contest run by the William F. Buckley, Jr. Program at Yale University with an essay proposing the admission of new residents to STS. John has already attended two conferences and is in the process of arranging meetings with legislators prior to the commencement of the next legislative session in January. We expect that John will be spending considerable time in Hartford when the session begins. We are paying John a very reasonable amount for his services but this new effort adds significantly to our costs. We believe that it is crucial to the future of STS.
Marty Dwyer and Tracy Atwood attended VOR's Annual Meeting & Legislative Initiative on June 9 - 13, 2018
Home and School Association President Marty Dwyer and member Tracy Atwood attended VOR's 2018 Annual Meeting and Legislative Initiative in Washington D.C. on June 9 – 13. As Executive Director of VOR, Home and School’s Hugo Dwyer was also prominently in attendance.
VOR’s Initiative provided a chance for Marty and Tracy to interact with advocates from across the United States. When visiting the Hill many advocates began with a "Meet VOR" pamphlet to introduce Legislative Aides to VOR, then proceeded with the "Ask", the request to cosponsor Rep. Bob Goodlatte's (R-VA) bill that would offer notification and the opportunity to opt-out of class action lawsuits.
If you have interest in attending the 2019 VOR Initiative please contact the Home and School Association for sponsorship opportunities.
